I edit a character file, save it, and load it to my D2R save folder but when I go to D2R the character does not change. If I try using a new character from the editor and save it to the file, the game does not show the character as well.

Make sure the game is up-to-date, this is the most common case it's not working.
Also make sure that the game is closed when you replace the save files.

same issue, game was closed when i replaced the file, now my character doesnt show in character select screen!!! HELP!!

experiencing the same issue as op. Cannot find any solutions. Game is up to date. Game is closed when doing any editing.
Every saved file I try to add causes the game to freeze and not load. Delete the file and the game works fine. Running 1.6.77312

I am having an issue with the hero editor where i am only getting the d2s file and no KEY file.
is this normal? any help will be greatly appreciated (i made it with chrome and opera)
yes, the key file is not generated (it's also not required anymore)
d2r editor is not working for the fitgirl repack i guess. It will only work with the latest version, sadly, fitgirl repacks do not update the game.
i also pirated the game from the fitgirl repack the hero editor doesnt work lmao
Wanted to copy my online character and play it offline, added some basic gear that's all, Can't even turn game on if it's a D2r character, If I try as a non D2r character the game loads but the character stays level 1 can can't join a single player game. Not working at all.
I noticed when I save my character file for my assassin now when I replace it from file from downloads after entering and exiting game as 99 my level would only show as 1 from menu
I was able to fix it not sure if mosaic rune word is ladder only but I toggled it showed my inventory how it was from in game automatically toggled ladder back on so it’s good now for me!
don't use fitgirl repack, it's not compatible with the hero editor

This is normal, just log in once and it will register your new level.
Please add an option to download the .key file.
